Space corridor modelling progress

I have been working on modelling this space sci fi looking corridor for the past week now. Even though some ideas had to be scrapped and others ended up having to be re-done what with Maya crashing on me a few times, I'm happy with where the project is going so far

Finding the shapes

Grabbed some images off of Artstation to mark out the primary, secondary and tertiary shapes in each image. This helped me break down otherwise complex designs into simple shapes and colours, allowing me to create a black template in the shape of the primary shapes, before doing rough designs of my own to consider with the project.

Spaceship module thingo

traced a module looking thing from a 3D render of a sci-fi corridor I found on the website polycount.com

Whilst i didnt design this module myself, I was able to learn about the 3 different parts of an object, the primary shapes, the secondary shapes, and the tertiary shapes (which are usually just textures on a flat surface.

from me sketching over the module, doing a few drawings off to the side, I was able to model a version of it.
it has its differences, but its clearly based on the original image. It has given me inspiration for how to design different modules for my scene later in the project

Project Mood Boards

Alright. Safe to say this project took a turn that I did not anticipate but I am entirely on board with it. I realised a few different ways I can interpret the passage and came to understand that it is vague enough for me to drastically change my initial idea to something a little more unique.
I first was looking at the game "Little Nightmares" that came out a few years ago, seeing how the different furniture is all designed and placed. Then I thought about the passage again, I realised there isn't any reason why it *wouldn't* work in space... soooooo I'm doing it with a space theme now. I researched a few different space themed creations made by different people to brainstorm some ideas, along with knowing what sort of stylistic theme I want after little nightmares, the next few weeks will be fun!

House of Usher concepts

We have been given a selection of passages from different old books and novels for us to base our next project on. I have decided mine will be based on a text from the work "The House of Usher" by Edgar Allen Poe, something about the "encrimsoned light" he mentions in the passage has given me a few ideas, so I started sketching some possible period designs for characters.

I doubt I'll be taking these designs further than this, as the character designs are not the focus of this project, it did however help me think of a possible direction to take this project.

First 2D platformer blog post

I haven't been doing too much over Christmas, but something I was working on during the first week after new years, was a small side scroller game where the player must collect pickups and get to the final large powerup.

It was a simple game with not much content, there were a few problems I encountered along the way but all in all nothing I couldn't fix. Mainly just bugs with collision, jumping or just general movement.

I finished it all off pretty early, at least everything I needed to include, so I decided to add a few pickups to the game, giving an objective for the player to complete. This then allowed me to be a bit creative with adding a mechanic into the game, letting the player jump higher with each powerup they collect, whilst balancing this mechanic by slowing down the player's horizontal velocity causing the player to need to think outside the box with how they reach certain areas.
